Students in Shanghai achieved a good performance in the Program for International Student Assessment(PISA) in 2009 and 2012, catching attention to education in the Chinese city from around the world.

In 2014, a Shanghai­England teacher exchange(互访) started. In September 2014, 73 teachers from 45 English primary schools visited schools in Shanghai. Between November 2014 and March 2015, 61 math teachers and researchers from Shanghai visited 48 English primary schools and performed how they taught math in China.

Harper Collins Publisher and Shanghai Century Publishing Group have reached an agreement. According to the agreement, some primary schools in Britain will use 36 kinds of books, including students' textbooks and teachers' textbooks from Shanghai primary schools, starting in September. The textbooks will be translated from Chinese into English to provide a complete math program for students in Britain.

Also, Britain will spread the Shanghai Teaching for Mastery Program(上海掌握教学模式) in the whole country. It is a four­year program. In July 2016, the British Department promised that they would spend 41 million British pounds on it.

Colin Hughes, Managing Director of Collins Learning, said, “The agreement can play an important role in raising young people's math performance in Britain. It is important to their success in both learning and life. ”
